Conventional electric water cylinders generate heat directly and generally operate close to a COP of 1.0. This means they produce approximately one unit of heat for each unit of electricity consumed.
Hot water heat pumps collect and transfer existing heat from the air. Depending on the system and operating conditions, a quality heat pump may achieve a COP between approximately 2.5 and 4.0.
